Let me explain. When we think of the biggest enemies of the environment, we think of massive coal power stations, mountains of mining waste, and all the contaminated by-products of chemical companies. What we never ever think about is that the clothes we are wearing – our favorite sweaters and pants – are one of the main causes of environmental destruction. But then I found out that the clothes industry is the second most contaminating sector on the planet, after oil and petrol! On top of that, it doesn’t only harm the planet, it is also one of the biggest culprits in terms of slave and child labor. How can it be that two such beautiful concepts – the world we live in and the clothes we wear – which should go hand-in-hand, are actually pitched in the war against each other?
I’m a woman who tries to live her life to the full! I ask a lot of myself and I’m a hard taskmaster but at the same time, I’m sensitive and confident. I have a conscience and I love adventure. All these, plus my love of women from all parts of the world, is what inspired me to enter into this new phase of my life and launch my clothing company.
So, how can I make my dream work without damaging the environment and break the cycle of destruction caused by many traditional fashion brands?
To answer this real and current problem, I realized I needed to find textiles and fabrics as well as production techniques that don’t harm our planet. I also wanted to start working with different family businesses from around my region, so I could support the shop local movement.
I have looked into these businesses and I am confident that they share the same values as I do – they employ people fairly and their work is not in conflict with the environment.
